Texas Rangers not shopping Michael Young?
Yesterday, there were reports on Michael Young and it was believed interest had developed concerning the veteran. The Colorado Rockies had asked about Young and General Manager, Jon Daniels, had gladly obliged, answering. However,
he wasn’t up to discussing a possible sale. Nevertheless, there have been rumours spreading around the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Resort for a couple of days. They talk of a trade and while speculation mounts, Texas is keen to reply.
The Rangers claim that they are not looking to offload their longest serving player in the team and in fact, the other clubs are coming around, asking for the veteran’s valuation. Jon Daniels reiterated the team’s stance on the
matter by saying, "That's the by-product of having these meetings. Ninety-nine percent of the players get asked about through different conversations. I'm not surprised when a big name gets run with."
Young has been a major part of the Texans and his contribution has seen a sound effect on the team’s performance in the regular league and the offseason. Young pulled out a batting average of.284. Furthermore, he pushed out 91
RBIs (Runs Batted In) and smashed 21 home runs. His slugging percentage of .444 contributed well to the team’s success in the 2010 campaign.
However, with a gaining interest in former man, Cliff Lee, the Texans may be looking at transfers and trades to make up for the lost power in the 40-man roster. Whatever the case, there could be a possibility that would see Young
cross the club’s borders for another team. For now that probability sits low in the reckoning of the management.
Apart from trading, a free agent sits well in the market and the Rangers know they will have to make the hard choice of spending heavily on a new player who is not familiar with the team and the environment in Texas. Adrian Beltre,
who has been with the Boston Red Sox, is not needed at his old club anymore and may find the Texans a likely alternative to an already homeless possibility.
His agent, Scott Boras is open for discussion and if the fans hope for a deal soon, the top gun in the free agency could become a Texas man. Boras recently said, "We're open to discussions with all teams on Adrian. We've been going
through a number of negotiations with a number of teams. There have been a lot of willing participants."
