Texas Rangers out-bid Toronto Blue Jays on Yu Darvish – MLB News
The Toronto Blue Jays have been out-bided by the Texas Rangers on Yu Darvish’s race on late Tuesday night, when the Rangers went ahead with a $51.7 million effort compared to Blue Jays’ $50 million bid.
Earlier, some two days ago, many baseball experts speculated in the media that Blue Jays would certainly lead the way forward as Darvish has huge chances of ending up in the Blue Jays roster but the Rangers have now turned the tables in their own interest
and are in perfect condition to negotiate with Darvish’s Japanese club, the Hokkaido Nippon Ham Fighters for his future.
The Ham fighters, who from last two years have lingered-on Darvish’s arrival in the Major League, now certainly would listen on the negotiation table about this huge offer. After biding for Darvish, the Texas Rangers’ general manager Jon Daniels also stated
via a conference call and expressed his excitement. Daniels said, “Obviously, it’s a very exciting night for our organization, our fans and our community, our ownership went the extra mile on this one, if we’re able to sign him (Darvish), then we’ll have a
very good problem on our hands, our commitment of our ownership is to put the best team out there.”
Another statement from team Rangers’ was also released describing how significant Darvish can be for their franchise for next couple of seasons. “Our organization has scouted Mr. Darvish for the last several years and has been very impressed with his abilities
and accomplishments. We look forward to beginning the next step of this process in the very near future.”
According to some MLB inside sources, Rangers are now in a pretty good position to take full advantage of this late development. Not only they are in a strong position to sign Darvish, but they are also very optimistic to sign him for five or six years as
longer contracts always benefit in the big league when compared to shorter ones. First, it helps the player to understand the team environment and secondly, the team itself gets the full benefit of player loyalty which is hugely commendable in the West.
