Texas Rangers outclass the Cleveland Indians 10-4 – MLB Update
Things could not have gone any better than they did on Tuesday for the Texas Rangers, September 13, as they beat the Cleveland Indians 10-4 at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington.
The club needed to keep their lead in the American League West to qualify for the post-season and they did just that as the hitting line-up mopped the floor with the Indians’ pitcher, Justin Masterson.
Rangers had pitching concerns of their own though as Matt Harrison conceded his share of runs in his five innings stint on the mound. His damage however was outweighed by the Indians’ which relieved the hurler from any criticism in the night.
The Texans picked up the scoring trail in the bottom of the second through David Murphy, who fed Masterson with a brilliant opening homer to right-field. Rangers went one up in style but the Indians responded in style as Carlos Santana got on top of Harrison
with a homer to left centre-field in the top of the fourth inning.
The trail of homers had just kicked off and it was Murphy again for the Rangers who got on the scoring card with a homer. The ball was smashed through right-field again. The score was now 2-1. The Indians showed their resilience through Kosuke Fukudome as
he ran home on a double from Jason Kipnis.
The score was now 2-2 and the Rangers went back in to the strike zone to face Masterson. The club however had nothing to be worried about as Elvis Andrus was walked to first and Josh Hamilton came in to smash a two-run homer. The home team went 4-2 up in
no time.
Harrison was changed in the top of the sixth when he conceded a double to Santana. With Michael Gonzalez coming on to the mound from the bullpen, things got easy for the Cleveland club as the hurler made a wild pitch to Shelley Duncan. Santana subsequently
scored from the play, to make it 3-4.
Masterson was replaced with Nick Hagadone on the other end but that did little to change the mindset of the Texas hitters in the bottom of the sixth. Two runs came from Craig Gentry’s single against the bullpen enforcer. Mike Napoli and David Murphy scored
the runs to make it 6-3.
Mitch Moreland and Gentry scored the seventh and the eighth run for the Texans in the same inning when Hagadone was switched with Josh Judy. An Andrus double got the runs in play and the score changed to 8-3 as the Rangers were still in play.
Adrian Beltre homered in the bottom of the seventh to raise the tally to eight against the Indians’ Zach Putnam. Murphy scored his fourth for the night when Napoli slammed a sharp ground ball towards centre-fielder for a RBI single. Rangers went up 10-3
and the night ended with a solo home run from Santana in the top of the eighth.
The scoring came to an end with that play and the Rangers picked up the first series win with a 10-4 score. Harrison picked up a win with three runs from five innings. Masterson on the other hand, lost with six runs allowed from five innings. Both teams
fought hard, but the Rangers dominated the game early to take an impressive win over the Indians.
