Texas Rangers outfielder David Murphy praises influential hitting coach Scott Coolbaugh
The Texas Rangers may be through to the World Series for the second straight year running but they will be trialed for a task they have never completed or won before. The club will be called up to fend off the challenge from the St. Louis Cardinals in the World Series. However there is positivity blooming in the midst as the Rangers are taking a cool approach to the situation. Outfielder David Murphy spoke to the press on Sunday, October 16, to talk about Scott Coolbaugh.
Coolbaugh was a figure that was rarely known beyond the Major League Baseball Circuit. However now, things are different. The former Triple – A hitting Coach replaced a disengaged Thad Bosley for the position of hitting Coach in the Texas Rangers Coaching Staff contingent. The Rangers had problems with Bosley, ever since he took charge from Clint Hurdle, after the 2010 World Series.
Due to communication woes, Bosley had to be replaced and it was Coolbaugh who got the club to where they are today. There was a big difference in the way things were done in the Coaching department and the players were looked after well by their supervisors.
"He's easy-going and he is consistent," outfielder David Murphy said. "He keeps you relaxed and he keeps you prepared. He stepped into his role gradually. He understood there were a lot of guys who have been in the league for a long time and they know their swings. He's not one who is just going to jump in and change things.
"He just has a way of saying things at the right time. He knows hitting, he loves to talk about it and he loves to teach it."
The Rangers beat the Detroit Tigers 15 – 5 on Saturday, October 15, in Game 6 of the American League Championship Series. If there were a few things to note, they had to be the Nelson Cruz’s record breaking sixth homer and 13th RBI in the Championship Series and the nine-run third inning rout. All of these features are the byproduct of Coolbaugh’s influence. The Rangers are on top of the world and they may earn the title this time around.
