Texas Rangers overpower Los Angeles Angels 15-9 – MLB Update
Los Angeles Angels were overpowered by the Texas Rangers 9-15 at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington, Texas on Thursday, August 2 in the finale of their four match series.
Ron Washington and company, once again, held their nerves to prevail in a high scoring thriller. Angels, on the other hand, will be disappointed to miss out on an excellent opportunity to win a series at Rangers Ballpark.
Los Angeles dominated Rangers 15-8 in series opener and they secured another comfortable 6-2 win in Game 2. Credit should be given to the Rangers for showing great determination in Game 3 to keep the series alive.
Securing a much needed win in the finale, the Rangers not only leveled the series but they also moved four games ahead of second placed Angels on the American League West Division standings.
"It was kind of a momentum kill from how we played the first two nights to how we played these last two," Angels' manager Mike Scioscia said.
Veteran Albert Pujols hit a sacrifice fly to right in the first inning to put the Angels on the board. Mark Trumbo hit a towering home-run to right to double the lead to 2-0 but the Rangers were also as determined.
Ian Kinsler homered to left centre in the first. Josh Hamilton and Michael Young earned RBI singles as the Rangers came back from behind for a 6-2 lead. Nelson Cruz belted a home-run to centre in the fourth to help Texas level score 7-7.
Elvis Andrus and Daniel Murphy displayed some top quality hitting skills to keep the Rangers in the driving seat in the closing stages.
"Basically, I've said stop thinking about it, stop listening to everybody -- everybody's got something to say," Hamilton said. "Just go out there and play. React. Try to slow the game down again. It worked. There's nothing wrong with my swing, it's just
about trusting myself, not being too aggressive and trying to slow the game down again."
Angels’ starting pitcher C.J. Wilson had a forgettable time on the mound as he gave up eight runs and 10 hits in just over five innings. He will be looking to regroup himself before his next appearance.
