Texas Rangers pick up 5-3 win against Seattle Mariners as Matt Harrison struggles
The Texas Rangers were on fire on Friday, September 23 as they managed to beat the Seattle Mariners 5-3 at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington. The club managed to pounce three home runs against the visitors as Craig Gentry’s in-field home-run made all the difference
in the end as two runs came from the shot and outweighed the Mariner’s fight back.
The game however did not go all the way in favour of the Texans. Matt Harrison pitched five scoreless innings before he allowed the Mariners three runs in the top sixth. The hurler picked up his 14th winner of the season, nevertheless. He walked
out of the top sixth with all hitters out, ending his night on a somewhat odd note.
Anthony Vasquez was not a lucky pitcher on the mound for the Mariners. The starter went 1-5 after this game as he picked up five runs from 3.1 innings of pitching and seven hits. The player conceded three homers while, picking up his earned runs average
to 8.89.
Mariners came into the series at Rangers Ballpark with a 2-1 series win over the Minnesota Twins. With a young roster, the club had a chance to put the fans behind their club and support for the rising stars. That outlook however was not something the team
was able to register on Friday.
Rangers kicked off the scoring rout in the second inning when Michael Young got home with 409-feet home-run to the left from Adrian Beltre. The hard hitter made a resounding impact on the game as he moved to 29 home-runs, this season. At 2-0, the Rangers
were at it again. This time it was 2010 American League Most Valuable Player, Josh Hamilton, who smashed a screaming homer to centre-field.
The Texans were 3-0 and it looked like they would score again. Craig Gentry delivered an odd in-field home-run as he followed Nelson Cruz to the home plate. The ball was hit to deep left which provided ample time for the two players on the diamond to clear
the bases.
Mariners had a chance and they made the most of it in the sixth against Harrison. Alex Liddi was allowed to walk at the start of the inning. He then moved to third when Chris Gimenez knocked Harrison for a single to centre-field. The Mariners availed their
first run through Ichiro Suzuki as the Japanese star smashed an RBI single to the left to send Liddi home.
The situation got worse for the Texas’ hurler as he walked Trayvon Robinson to load the bases. Dustin Ackley came in to hit a sacrifice fly to left-field as Gimenez scored the second for the team. Miguel Olivo then came in to do the same thing. He led Suzuki
through the last plate. That was the last run for the Mariners as Mike Carp ground out and Harrison ended the inning with three runs conceded.
The game did not produce any more runs beyond the sixth inning as bullpen relievers did their best from each end to close the game on 5-3, in favour of the Rangers. Texas put in a tremendous effort as they fought hard throughout the game as they managed
to get a much needed win against the Mariners.
