Texas Rangers pitching coach Mike Maddux talks on hurler, Alexi Ogando
The Texas Rangers are through to the World Series for the second straight year. However the craze surrounding a lot of players has not faded, thus far. Alexi Ogando picked up a critical win in Game 6 of the American League Championship Series against the
Detroit Tigers at the Rangers Ballpark in Arlington and he was talked about greatly by many members of the ball club on Sunday, October 16.
Pitching Coach Mike Maddux termed Ogando’s recent performance as a continuation of a good season in 2010 when the hurler was pitching from the bullpen, the entire year. The difference this year has been his role as a starter in the regular season. The player
may have picked up two important wins in the post season but his major role yielded 13 wins and eight losses in the regular season. His earning runs average was just 3.51.
In the postseason period, he stands on 2 – 0 from seven games. Both of his wins came off the Detroit Tigers and his current earning runs average is 0.87. The player has another statistical grip in the form of wins, as he has been part of the winning team
on all seven appearances on the mound in the postseason. The player was 4 – 1 in 2010 in 44 game appearances as a reliever in the regular season.
"Everybody's been making a big deal about what Alexi did this year," Maddux said. "But he did the same thing last year. He was a wild card for us last year, and he was a wild card for us this year. The guy's a good pitcher, man. He's a big reason why we're
here, along with all the other guys down here."
There is optimism about that Ogando can do very big things for the Rangers in the World Series against the St. Louis Cardinals. However there is nothing to suggest otherwise about his role in Major League Baseball’s regular season.
"Ogando's a good Major League pitcher, man," Maddux said. "With the experience he gathered as a starter this year, he really showed up out of the bullpen."
There will be a lot of expectation place by the pitching Coach when the World Series. In his opinion, Ogando can deliver the title.
