Texas Rangers pitching follows with C. J. Wilson, Derek Holland, Colby Lewis and Matt Harrison
It looks like the Texas Rangers have concluded one of their ongoing debates on who to pitch in the American League Championship Series. C. J. Wilson was always going to pitch but the main issue dealt with who was going to follow in the line-up.
Fortunately, Manager Ron Washington has come up with the pitching rotation that the club will look to enforce over the Game 1 encounter with the Detroit Tigers at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington. The skipper announced the line up on Friday, October 7.
Wilson will start in Game 1 as Derek Holland will take charge over the proceedings in Game 2. He already has a 1-0 standing in the post-season, following a lucky winner over the Tampa Bay Rays in Game 2 of the American League Division Series. His season
standing of 16-5 cements his role as a class act to start on the mound.
Colby Lewis will take Game 3 and he also has a win in the post-season, already. His 14-10 record from the regular season may be a bit worrisome when compared to that of the Tigers but his off-season record from 2010 and the first game of 2011 speaks volumes
of his contribution. Matt Harrison will take charge of Game 4 and his 14-9 record for the regular season shows he is a valuable asset to the club. He also has a post-season win and that shows the tenacity of the Rangers.
"The same way it was in the first series, I like C.J. [Wilson] and Holland back-to-back," Washington said. "That's what I did in the first round and it worked, so that's what I'm going to do in the second round."
Holland talked about the match-up of pitchers between the Tigers and the Rangers.
"They are certainly loaded with starting pitching, but so are we," Holland said. "You can't sell us short. We have been pitching all year and we did a pretty good job."
With Game 1 scheduled for October 8, the Rangers and the Tigers will be looking to dominate early to take a decisive victory in the Series.
