Texas Rangers ponder over Derek Holland's contract extension – MLB News
The Texas Rangers are reportedly deliberating over the contract extension for one of the aces the team proudly boasts, Derek Holland. However, there are also indications that both Holland and the Rangers have shelved talks for now owing to the lack of agreement
as to what the terms are for a new contract.
There have been instances in the past when the Rangers have opted for contract extension prior to arbitration. This particular contract extension is said to have a total of five years, but apparently the talks have not borne much fruit.
What is clear though is that Holland has no imminent possibility of having to become a free-agent. His arbitration shall be decided after three years as the Rangers have absolute say on the contract for almost four years.
Holland, beyond any doubt, proved his effectiveness and instrumentality as a pitcher last year with his sensational performance. He turned out to be one of the classic pitchers in the rotation, ending .87 ERA in the World Series with 1-0 victory a performance
that won him numerous accolades.
On the other hand, his regular season record was outright impressive for the conspicuously obvious reasons. In the regular season, for example, he appeared in 32 games, having had four complete games, winning 16 of the games and losing only five in 198 innings
that the starter pitched for the Rangers.
With 16 wins, he stood fourth in the American League, having had the third highest position in winning percentage with .762 and fourth in complete games.
The 25-year-old player, with two years experience, has got the potential to be an imposing pitcher with his performance. The player has 27 wins so far in his career in the 79 games that he has appeared, maintaining an ERA of 4.73 with 323 strike-outs.
It has to be seen what the Texas Rangers decide to do with Holland’s contract. Given the fact that the club has kept a seemingly ambiguous stance over the possibility of a long term deal, we will probably not see anything concrete in the days to come.
