Texas Rangers’ president Nolan Ryan excited about Yu Darvish’s induction – MLB News
As the news of Yu Darvish’s deal with the Texas Rangers was confirmed on Wednesday, a wave of excitement and anticipation pervaded the atmosphere in the town. Among others, it was the Texas Rangers’ President Nolan Ryan who was excited about this prospect.
Speaking to the newsmen after the finalisation of the deal, the club president said that they are excited about having the pitcher in their fold. Citing the talent as the requisite of this player’s induction in the team, Ryan commented that Darvish is capable
of doing a lot for the team.
"We're very excited about having him join us. He's extremely talented, one of the most talented young pitchers we've seen. We feel he has a bright future ahead of him. What that will equal to, we don't know. Once he gets settled in and gets rolling, we'll
see what he is capable of doing."
There are reasons to believe that the player will be perfectly settled in the team. With 76 wins to his credit, he has remained a dominant figure in the Pacific League with 1.72 ERA, a feat that he achieved twice in his career.
All the same, the player was literally unbeatable the last season with his 1.44 ERA in the 28 games that he appeared for his club and 18 wins to his credit. Important to mention here is the fact that in the last five seasons, he had kept an ERA below 2.00;
something of a great achievement for any pitcher.
But to be pursued by the Rangers was significant for his agent Arn Tellem who said that it was the club that showed immense interest in the player.
“The Rangers, more so than any other club, showed not only a scouting interest in Yu but also really developed a relationship with him," Tellem said. "There was an intimate connection between Yu, his family and the Rangers organization that was a positive
going forward.”
While he has remained virtually invincible in the Japanese League, it will be interesting to see if he can prove his brilliance in Major League Baseball as well.
