Texas Rangers prevail over the Seattle Mariners with 1-0 win—MLB Update
The Texas Rangers Neftali Feliz had an auspicious first major league start on Tuesday, April 10, to help the team beat the Seattle Mariners by 1-0. At Arlington, where the Rangers had already won the first game by a big margin, got their support in offence by Michael Young who scored in the second inning to seal the victory.
However, what was important for the team on Tuesday was Neftali’s first ever start in the MLB. The starter did it with his seven scoreless innings, rendering the entire Mariners’ hitters unable to go for any run.
Coming at a time when he could not forget the last year’s fiasco that he had to face in the World Series against the St. Louis Cardinals, Feliz here was an entirely changed pitcher, making significant efforts to prove his worth as an instrumental part of the team.
"It's a dream come true for me," Feliz said. "I was hoping for the moment to become a starter in the major leagues and finally it happened. And I thank the Rangers for making that happen. And here I am."
It was Blake Beaven, who had his first start in the season. Although he was not lucky enough to pave the way of victory for the team, his 6.1 innings saw him only concede a run with three strikeouts to his credit.
"All day my stomach was queasy, so I could tell it wasn't any other game for me," Beavan said. "It's something I dreamed about doing ever since I was a little kid watching these games was pitching on that mound."
However, whatever the result at the end, the Mariners seem not very bothered as they looked ahead for the upcoming games. "You don't see too many 1-0 games in this ballpark," Mariners manager Eric Wedge said. "Both pitchers were outstanding."
The Texas Rangers now have 2-0 lead in the four-game series. With the next game scheduled for Wednesday, it will be interesting to see how the Mariners stage a comeback as they seem all ready now to face the Rangers with more confidence than ever.
