Texas Rangers probing reasons behind shaky offense
On Thursday night, Major League Baseball entered its second fixture in the World Series played between two Champions. The National League and the American League winners collided for the second time in the campaign, on Thursday to decide who would take the
victory home. The objective in the competition has been to avail 4 wins in a total 7 matches and at the moment one team has been doing that easily.
The Texas Rangers were facing the hosts, San Francisco Giants, for the second time and after their 7 – 11 defeat in the last game, a new strategy had to be formulated in order to get close the gap between them and their opponents in the series. The objective
was simple but the task was difficult. The hosts brought on Matt Cain to the mound and drove him against the visitors. Cain had not conceded a single run in the post season and his record stayed intact as the Rangers fell out of contention in a 9–0 loss.
Michael Young, Elvis Andrus, Nelson Cruz and the American League Most Valuable Player, Josh Hamilton were run-less. Andrus had his hitting streak come to an end as the man went 0 for 3 at bats. The figure was a staggering revelation for a man who had 12
games hitting streak. Nelson Cruz was fairly bumpy as he had one chance, which he spoiled with a weak shot in the game.
Hamilton saw a chance for the team to take the match back when the Rangers were reeling 0–2. However that never happened and he explained it with: “We had some opportunities to go ahead, jump on them early. We didn't get it done. We had opportunities when
it was 2-0 to at least score and get the game tied, and we didn't get it done.”
When Andrus was on second, courtesy a walk and a steal in the 8th inning, Giants manager Bruce Bochy turned to reliever Javier Lopez to take care of Josh Hamilton. Though the match ended in disappointment, there is still hope the Texans can gain
the momentum when the sides return for the 3rd fixture in the Rangers’ Ballpark.
Lopez had a few things to say about the Rangers and he started off by saying, “When you go over this ballclub, they're the kind of guys that make stuff happen when they're on base. Obviously, that's key. You want to keep the top part of the order off base.
You saw in the last series when they were getting a couple guys on, next thing you know, a couple things are happening for them. We're trying to limit that the best we can.”
