Texas Rangers reach deal with Adrian Beltre
Texas Rangers had a lot of choices moving in for them in the off season period. They did wonders in 2010 and that would leave any team thinking whether they would be able to capitalize on their achievement in 2011 or not. The major
concerns that have hindered the ball club for so long seem unusually absent this time around. Now, it seems the last big piece of the puzzle may be solved. It depends on who sees the light of day in times when everything seems pointless.
The Rangers faced a change in ownership in August and that made matters easy for the players who were keeping their focus on the games. Chuck Greenberg took the Chief Executive Officer’s position and landed Nolan Ryan as the President
of the club. Winning the division was not much difficult for the team. Josh Hamilton provided a ‘Most Valuable Player’ kind of performance to make an impact in the club’s progression to the playoffs.
Cliff Lee and C. J. Wilson provided the pitching expertise needed to make it to the post season. Through perseverance, Rangers clinched the American League Championship title, by beating the New York Yankees, last year in October.
Achieving the hallmark, the Texans moved into the World Series for the first time in history. However, Fate was not going to side with them this time, as they lost the title bid to the San Francisco Giants. In the off-season period, they would go on to lose
Cliff Lee as well.
Now, with the team set to ride into a new season in 2011, things look worrisome. Designated hitter, Vladimir Guerrero is hesitating on coming back and pitching rotation is not as strong as it used to be. Nevertheless, recent reports
claim that the club has broken the tide to sign on Adrian Beltre. The former Boston Red Sox is reported to have signed a $96 million deal, lasting 6 years.
The news comes from the Dominican Republic, through reliable media publications. The news has not been confirmed in the United States though. Oakland Athletics had been tied to the player, but due to wage demands, pulled out. On
the other hand, Los Angeles Angels were leading the race with a 5-year $70 million deal; however, now, it seems that the Rangers pulled out a surprise bid for Beltre.
Time will only tell if the reports are authentic. For now, it should be considered a rumour.
