Texas Rangers react after defeat in Game 5, team looks to finish series in next encounter
The Texas Rangers had a lot to talk about after their 7 – 5 game defeat at the hands of the Detroit Tigers. The club failed to pounce on their rivals at the Comerica Park in Detroit as they lost the chance to end the series in Game 5 of the American League
Championship Series. The Rangers manager, Ron Washington and outfielder, David Murphy, had a few words to say after the game on Thursday, October 13.
The Rangers tied the game 2 – 2 till the sixth inning against a fiery Detroit hurler, Justin Verlander. The team however missed a lot of chances to go up. With a bases-loaded situation in the sixth, Ian Kinsler came up to waste the Texans chance with a double
play hit to third baseman Brandon Inge.
At the same time, C. J. Wilson lost his pitching form on the mound in the sixth when Miguel Cabrera hit the ball towards the third baseman, Adrian Beltre. The ball, instead of heading straight to the infielder, looped up above the player after banging against
the third base bag. The incident converted the hit for an RBI double.
Subsequently, Wilson allowed Victor Martinez an RBI triple and Delmon Young, a two-run homer. The club went 6 – 2 behind Detroit at the end of the sixth. Ron Washington did not take the credit away from his team though. He praised his team and the Tigers
after the encounter had come to a close.
"I thought we played a very good ballgame," Washington said. "You got to give the Tigers credit. They beat us. They put runs up, and we couldn't catch up. We played as good of baseball as we could today and they played as good of baseball as they could,
and they won."
The Rangers are now hoping to win Game 6 in order to close the series sooner than later.
"It would have been nice to do it here," Murphy said. "A team as good as the Tigers, you want to put them away as quickly as you can. The bottom line is we're going home, we play well at home and we have a chance to do it in front of our fans. It should
be fun."
If the Rangers lose Game 6, they will have to play Game 7 for a decider.
