Texas Rangers rebound with 4-3 win over Los Angeles Angels – MLB Update
The Texas Rangers did not provide the Los Angeles Angels a second chance to stabilise and beat them 4-3 in the third outing at Angels Stadium in Anaheim on Wednesday, August 17 to take a 3-0 lead in the four-game series.
"The whole game, I'm worked up tonight more than I've ever been worked up so far," Texas manager Ron Washington said. "The whole atmosphere was great. It was just the game, with C.J. and Santana going at it."
Despite allowing a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning, the Rangers’ starter C.J. Wilson made a wonderful rebound to take his club into another win. Wilson allowed only five hits and two runs of is seven innings spell to get his 12th win
of the season. He also had six more strike-outs to his 153 record in 2011 regular season.
The American League club struggled in the first half of the game against the Angels’ starter Ervin Santana but turned his scoreless spell into a nightmare with their granular hits in the fifth and the sixth inning. Josh Hamilton kicked off the Rangers scoring
game with his line drive RBI single to centre-field.
In the sixth inning, first baseman Mitch Moreland tied the game 2-all, hammering a huge 417-feet long one-run homer off Santana. Nelson Cruz was occupying third base, Mike Napoli second and Moreland first, when Ian Kinsler landed at the plate for his fifth
at-bat and blistered a hit to left-field for a RBI double.
The Rangers secured a 4-2 lead in the top of the eighth inning.
Santana completed just over seven innings with ten hits and four runs but he still managed to get appreciation from his manager Mike Scioscia.
"There's no doubt that Ervin was pitching with his back against the wall, even though he had a two-run lead," Scioscia said.
On the other hand, Wilson handed the ball to Koji Uehara, who tossed 10 strikes before receiving a huge hit by the Angels’ second baseman Henry Kendrick for a one run-homer. However, he managed to get his 17th hold of the season.
Neftali Feliz made an excellent ninth inning under pressure to snatch his 24th win of the season with a 3.23 ERA as he allowed only one hit.
The Rangers put in a decent performance as they managed to contain the powerful Los Angeles Angels’ offence at a crucial time to take an impressive close victory.
