Texas Rangers reeling with hitting and pitching problems as team heads to Washington
The Texas Rangers have gone to Washington to face the Seattle Mariners. The team took a hard knock on their last 16 games as they went on to lose ten games.
The situation may not seem to change in the coming days but there is optimism that the side will be able to overpower its bad run in the games ahead. With three top pitchers out of the squad and hitters looking for a nudge, tough times are around.
Josh Hamilton has been out of the mix for a while now and there is no denying the possibility that the outfielder will be back in the mix, within the month.
On the other hand, pitchers such as Tommy Hunter, Brandon Webb, and, Scott Feldman, are all in Arizona, attending extended spring training. Furthermore, the current lineup of starters is faltering badly.
The hitters in the squad have been less responsive and only Michael Young seems to be in good shape. The unofficial captain is doing the best he can and he steered three runs for the team against the Oakland Athletics. The Rangers would however lose the
game 4–5, eventually.
"We're grinding right now", Young said. "We're battling and playing hard, but we're not getting the breaks. We need to stay with it and do the things we need to do, and we'll turn it around. Just keep playing our game, and things will fall our way. We have
a lot of talent and we play the game right. That's a good combination".
The bullpen, on the other hand, is also faltering. Many relievers are out of the mix and Neftali Feliz is tied in with the absent starters working on his right shoulder inflammation. He is slated to return to the line-up. Manager Washington has relied mostly
on over-40 relievers, Arthur Rhodes and Darren Oliver. With form problems, one cannot blame the skipper.
"That's what I got in the bullpen", Washington said. "I expect those guys to get it done. I'm not going to cause a ruckus, we've got to keep battling. We're getting tested, and I expect us to fight through this and come out the other side".
Fans hope the dust settles down soon as the club is losing its ground in the American League West.
