Texas Rangers reflect on good result as club hopes to go through to the World Series
The Texas Rangers picked up an amazing 7 – 3 win over the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday, October 12, at the Comerica Park in Detroit. The club picked up its third victory in Game 4 in dominating fashion as they are now 3 – 1 in the American League Championship
Series. The whole team had a part to play in the win. Many Texas players were willing to reflect on the game and their chances of going through to the World Series for the second time in a row, after game ended.
Rain seems to be aiding the club a lot, lately, and the Rangers had a good string of blitzes in the park that got the winner in the eleventh inning. Showers delayed the match by 2 hours and 13 minutes but it made no difference to the Rangers. Matt Harrison
pitched well, conceding just two runs, while almost every player in the hitting line up managed a hit against the Tigers.
Mike Napoli broke the 3 – 3 tie in the eleventh inning to get the Rangers to four runs in the bout. Nelson Cruz then ended the game with a three-run homer. The offence was not the only thing that worked. Nelson Cruz caught a fly ball in the eighth and then
threw the ball to catcher Napoli for a tag out on Miguel Cabrera at the home plate.
Napoli then caught Austin Jackson stealing second base in the bottom tenth. He threw the ball to tag the Detroit man out as the game reached its climax. Defense was also strong.
"What a game," outfielder David Murphy said. A lot of fun, especially when it ends like that."
"If you don't like baseball, you probably like it now after watching these games," Napoli said.
The Rangers will now face Justin Verlander in Game 5 of the competition. The Detroit hurler was 24 – 5 in the regular season and he will be trying to stop the Rangers from going through to the World Series.
"We can definitely taste it, but we're facing one of the best pitchers in baseball tomorrow," second baseman Ian Kinsler said. "It will be a difficult task, but hopefully we can get one more and close it out."
The Rangers need one more win to go through. Statistics tell that 26 of 32 teams with a 3 – 1 lead have made it through to the final stage. Will Game 5 be the right night for the Rangers to reach the last stage? One cannot say with guarantee when Verlander
takes the mound. The only thing left to do is watch the next game when it airs live on Thursday, October 13.
