Texas Rangers’ right-fielder Nelson Cruz eyeing return to hitting blitz in play-offs – MLB News
If there is one thing Nelson Cruz wanted on Tuesday, September 27 it was the chance to steer home big runs with his bat. The star made an incredible start against the Los Angeles Angels at Angel Stadium in Anaheim as he smashed a solo home-run against the
Angels’ hurler, Jerome Williams. The right-fielder was looking for a stride in the recent outing as he was 5-for-32 in the last nine before entering the game.
Ending the night with a home-run and two RBIs will make many fans happy as the star looks to hit the top tier in the squad. The player ended his tenth game since returning from injury, with seven hits from a total of 37 at-bats. The player talked about his
concerns before the game started.
"Right now I want to make sure my swing is right for the playoffs," Cruz said. "It feels right and I'm seeing the ball well. I just need more at-bats."
With just two games left before Tuesday’s outing, the player clarified his intention on getting back to his hitting stride. He stressed that it was important to get back to the game as his hamstring is feeling much better before he was put on the disabled
list.
"I have to be," Cruz said. "I have no choice. The playoffs are totally different. It's a one-time chance. It's no time to be thinking about anything else."
The club manager Ron Washington had a few words of encouragement for the out-fielder before the game against the Los Angeles Angels. He talked about the star’s contribution in the field.
"I think he's getting close," Washington said. "He took some great passes [Monday night]. He could be our secret weapon on Friday.”
With the star on 28 homers in the season, there is a good chance that he will be useful in the Rangers walk to glory in the play-offs. It will be interesting to see how well Cruz performs in post-season and the impact he will have for the team.
