Texas Rangers’ rotation ever stronger - MLB News
The Texas Rangers' manager Ron Washington on Wednesday, April 04, spoke about the team’s rotation, expressing his confidence that it will play a lead role in the team’s success. Rangers, it is important to mention here, was first in the American League last year with 74 wins with their rotation.
This year too, the team intends to have an aggressive and effective rotation to do the needed. There are some young and accomplished pitchers that dot the Rangers’ roster. Derek Holland is one of them.
He came forward as one of the best pitchers in the league with 16 wins to his credit throughout the season. Judging from the quality of his pitching and the ability of this player, he might well rise as one of the top pitchers in the league with most wins.
Nonetheless, the team manager has some observations to make. The spring had a few insights to offer for Ron Washington:
"He was as good in the beginning as he was at the end. He kept the ball down and used all his pitches. He needs to continue to do that. Holland [left] some pitches over the plate and got hit a little bit at the end. But the thing about Holland that was different in the past is he never backed down. He gave up some runs, but he never let an inning get out of hand. That's a sign of maturity."
Other than Holland, it is Matt Harrison who is being seen as yet another pitcher with the great ability of winning. Harrison has, in this spring, maintained an ERA of 1.13. This comes at a time when in the last season he had no less than 14 wins.
Neftali Feliz is another pitcher who will add to the team’s strength in the rotation. Overall, everything, for now, goes to the Texas Rangers’ favour as far as the rotation is concerned. It will be highly interesting to see how the starting pitchers move from here to once again bring about the victories that the Rangers scored last year with their tremendously invaluable help.
