Texas Rangers rout Los Angeles Angels, 5-4: MLB Update
The Texas Rangers overpowered the Los Angeles Angels 5-4 in an electrifying competition on their home ground, the Rangers Ballpark Stadium, on Sunday, May 15, to clinch three-game series 2-1.
With all the bases loaded, the Rangers' slugger, Chris Davis entered the plate for his fourth at-bat and hit a lead generating single in the bottom of the eighth inning. Davis, who has already hammered a homer in the fourth inning, added a beautiful single
to the right side of the field to cement the Club’s 21st victory in 2011.
The Rangers' Manager, Ron Washington, was pleased to see his struggling batter into such a promising mood.
Washington said, "He understood the situation. I think (Saturday) he felt pretty good up there and he was trying to do more than the situation dictated. Today, he was just trying to take care of business because of what the situation dictated."
Davis had earned his team a defeat due to his foul pop out in the last inning of the middle game of the series. The Rangers lost that game, 3-2.
"I thought about it when I was walking up to the plate," Davis said. "You can't change what happened yesterday. You can only control what you can control today. ... When you're not playing every day, you have to capitalize on every opportunity you're given."
Closer Neftali Feliz tossed a perfect ninth inning for his eighth save of the season and led the Club to their fifth series win of the season.
The Angels’ Torii Hunter provided his team an early 1-0 lead in the third inning, but the Club could not increase this lead. On the other hand, the Rangers’ Adrian Beltre launched a three-run sizzling homer off the Angels’ starter Ervin Santana, in the third
inning to take his into a leading position with 3-1. In the next inning, Chris Davis launched a 400ft long huge homer to elevate the lead to 4-1.
The Angels’ Erick Aybar swung his bat brilliantly against the Rangers starter Christopher John Wilson for a one-run homer in the top of the fifth inning to trim the lead by one run. Aybar, then hit an RBI double to tie the game at four all.
The game was tied at 4-4 in sixth when Ervin struck back to held the Rangers scoreless in his next two innings, but as soon as he finished his spell and handed the ball to Rich Thompson, the game started slipping out of their hands. Thompson gave away two
straight walks and drove in single to Mike Napoli allowing Adrian Beltre and David Murphy stole third and second base respectively.
With two bases loaded, the Angels’ Manager Mike Scioscia relieved Thompson with Hiroki Kuroda, however, the move did not work as Kuroda tossed a shaky pitch for a lead allowing single in the bottom of the eighth inning.
Wilson, despite allowing four runs on six hits and making just two strike-outs, managed to earn his fourth win of the season with 3.38 ERA. The relievers, Brett Tomko, Mark Lowe and closer, Feliz, not all yielded any run over their short spells.
