Texas Rangers rout Seattle Mariners 7-0 – MLB Recap
Texas Rangers defeated the Seattle Mariners 7-0 in the first game of their three-match regular series encounter on Friday, April 19 at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington.
“We know what we're capable of as an offense. You can't do that every night, That was big for Yu, and big for our club," said Ian Kinsler, whose RBI double capped that breakthrough inning.
Yu Darvish thrashed the Mariners up-front batting lineup in his seven innings’ spell. He received three hits and struck out 10 on 2.03 ERA.
“I don't know if that many days of rest affected my pitching, But I'd rather have pitched today than yesterday in cold weather in Chicago," Darvish said through his translator.
Not only in this particular season, but Darvish is having a wonderful time in the Major League since his arrival in 2012.
Along with Darvish, the Rangers closing pitcher Robbie Ross also showed great resistance on the mound with his one inning’s spell. He received only one hit and struck out three on his consistent 1.35 ERA.
Overall performance of Rangers’ entire roster looked solid. Even from start of the game, the Rangers hitters dominated the Mariners pitchers.
Designated hitter Lance Berkman scored one run on his three at bats. He showed great temperament on his consistent slugging percentage of .590.
A.J. Pierzynski also contributed with his one run and two RBIs on his four at bats. He played quite consistently and maintained his slugging percentage of .449.
“He threw more curveballs than he did in Seattle. He also threw more fastballs. He didn't a really good fastball (in Seattle). Tonight, he threw a lot more for strikes, Yu has so many pitches and they're all good. It's hard to pick one," catcher A.J. Pierzynski
said.
Right fielder Jeff Baker played a key role in the Rangers’ win with his two runs and single RBI on his three at bats.
On the other hand, the Rangers pitchers and hitters did not play their natural game and eventually lost the game with huge margin.
Starting pitcher Joe Saunders pitched 4.2 innings and allowed seven runs on nine hits. He also allowed seven earned runs along with a homer on 4.50 ERA.
