Texas Rangers scratch Yu Darvish from start – MLB Update
Texas Rangers’ starting pitcher Yu Darvish will not pitch on Monday as he has recently been slightly injured with neck stiffness.
“This is precautionary on my part,” Darvish said.
“It’s not a setback at all, in the season, he would have pitched, and you wouldn’t have known anything about it. But it doesn’t make any sense if he’s feeling something down here,” Rangers’ manager Ron Washington said.
Darvish, the Rangers’ ace starter, joined the team from Japan last year when he was signed for a hefty amount. He did a good job as well achieving 3.90 ERA along with 221 strike-outs. His win-loss record was pretty consistent at 16-9 along with 1.28 WHIP.
Now with this slight injury he will rest a bit before resuming his baseball activities. His recent Spring Training was also going smooth as he was preparing for the next Major League Baseball season.
“I think today was obviously Darvish not being able to start, I was scheduled to pitch two innings. You never like to see anybody get injured, but it actually worked out in my favor to get an extra inning out of it. It was a lot better, a lot better breaking
ball, command of the sinker was a lot better,” Derek Lowe, Darvish’s team-mate said in the game against the  Kansas City Royals.
Experts believe that Darvish’s injury is minor and he will be coming back soon. On the other hand, there is no reason Rangers should worry about Darvish’s neck stiffness as he will recover soon and will be opening the season for them as well.
However, if something does happen, then the Rangers will be fine. They have very good starters in the roster that will certainly provide them with offensive prowess whenever the team needs them.
Neftali Feliz and Matt Harrison are two starters the team manager Ron Washington always shows confidence in. Both have relatively good experience and know their offensive game quite well.
Feliz also achieved good numbers last season with consistent 3.16 ERA along with a 3-1 win-loss record, 37 strike-outs and 1.20 WHIP.
Harrison also stood tall last season with his brilliant performance on the mound as he went consistent at 3.29 ERA in the entire season.
