Texas Rangers seeking R.A. Dickey through trade from New York Mets - MLB Update
Texas Rangers are keen on acquiring R.A. Dickey through a trade with New York Mets. Dickey was drafted by the Rangers back in 1996.
Considering the fact that Dickey is at such a stage of his career where some of the best performances are coming from him on the field, they want to call their former player back in the team.
It is not certain yet whether the Mets will grant Dickey a contract extension, though talks are underway.
If the negotiations fail, New York will have a player who has an immense trade value and can ensure quality prospects in return for his provision to another organisation.
The Rangers will have to pray for deadlock in the on-going talks in order to produce the possibility of his return to their roster.
In Baseball Winter Meetings, they will be discussing this matter seriously and trying to frame up an attractive package of players worth convincing the Mets to trade Dickey.
For example, Texas can analyse offseason priorities. By thinking ways as to how they can offer New York something that fulfils their needs, they can turn their attention toward a possible trade.
Outfield is the area where the Mets lack at the moment. Since exclusion of Jason Bay from their roster, they are without a regular player at this position.
Even worse for them is the fact that they are short of capital to buy players from the free agent market, which can also make them resort to trading Dickey to address roster issues.
Recent signing of David Wright for $138 million for eight-years by the Mets has further handicapped the club on spending money in the market.
Above mentioned factors that can possibly force the Mets to trade Dickey will be in the minds of the Rangers’ officials.
If solutions to New York of their problems are provided and a trade of Dickey made as formulae for it by Texas, the latter can go a long way in bringing the knuckleballer back in the team.
It remains to be seen whether Dickey is also interested in joining his former club, the Rangers again.
It will be interesting to see how Dickey responds to the eagerness that Rangers have demonstrated for his acquisition.
