Texas Rangers shutout Chicago White Sox 4-0 – MLB Update
Texas Rangers threw the fifth shutout of the season to defeat Chicago White Sox by 4-0 at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington on Monday, May 23.
Texas held their firm grip on the game since the start and outplayed the White Sox.
Josh Hamilton proved to be the backbone of Texas offence on Monday with his first homer of the season. The homer brought joy in the team camp, something that Hamilton expressed himself. "It was good to get it out of the way, good to get that nervousness
over," Hamilton said.
Nelson Cruz who was in disabled list owing to his injury made a splendid come-back and homered to ensure 4-0 victory for Texas. The duo’s return proved favourable. "An exciting moment for us to be back," Cruz said.
While the offence played a crucial role on Monday, it was Alexi Ogando who contributed to the second consecutive shut-out among the last three of eight games.
The previously unfit Hamilton laid a solid foundation for Texas Rangers with the homer to right. John Danks, who had come pitching for White Sox, gave up two hits in the inning and allowed one run to Hamilton.
Ogando, who literally left the White Sox offence in hopeless tatters, kept pitching effectively to maintain the 1-0 lead that Texas made in the first inning. Ogando was pitching shutout innings when Cruz tripled the Texas lead in the sixth inning.
When Danks came in the sixth inning, Cruz homered to left, allowing Adrian Beltre to execute the two-run homer, making it 3-0 for Texas Rangers. Danks gave up two hits in the inning, one of which resulted in the two-run homer of Cruz.
Danks gave up a couple of hits once again in the eighth again, which was perfectly capitalised upon by Beltre whose sacrifice fly to centre resulted in a single, making an irreversible lead of 4-0 in the eighth inning.
Ogando sealed the 4-0 victory for Texas Rangers with his virtually unhittable pitches in the ninth inning, further improving the team’s overall record in this season.
