Texas Rangers shutout Tampa Bay Rays 3-0 - MLB Update
The American League Western franchise, Texas Rangers dominated the game from both sides as the club shut-out league rivals Tampa Bay Rays 3-0, in the rubber fixture of the three-game series at the Tropicana Field on Wednesday, June 1.
The Rangers’ starter Colby Lewis entered the plate for his 11th start and dominated the batters with his fast swinging pitches right from the first inning. He put in an amazing performance with the ball.
The 31-year-old right-hand ball thrower struck-out eight batters allowing just four scoreless hits, one each in first, second, third and then in the eighth inning. He allowed two walks over eight innings to achieve his fifth win of the season.
The ball thrower, who has lost his previous two games, received a strong back up from closer Neftali Feliz, who allowed just one hit without allowing any walk in his last inning. The 23-year-old Dominican pitcher maintained his ERA to 1.37 to secure his
11th game of the season.
"Anytime you go against No. 1, he's definitely doing his job, and all I was trying to do was go out there and match him," Lewis said.
The Rangers’ Nelson Cruz scored an RBI single to centre-field off the Rays’ starter David Price to nip the scoreless tie in the fifth inning. Then in the eighth inning, Elvis Andrus hit to right-field for a tremendous RBI single after Ian Kinsler walked
to second base.
"If the runners are not on second and third there, that ball Elvis hit is just a normal out," The Rangers’ manager Ron Washington said of the hit Elvis launched. "Since we had runners on second and third, the corners had to come in and we pushed something
pass them."
After allowing three runs on five hits, Price ended his eight innings spell in which he made eight strike-outs but remained winless. The 25-year-old left-hander lost his fifth game of the season and now has 6-5 record with a 3.52 ERA.
Closer Adam Russell threw a brilliant scoreless last inning allowing just one hit over 17 pitches.
