Texas Rangers shutout by Seattle Mariners 0-1 – MLB Update
Texas Rangers were shut-out by the Seattle Mariners 0-1 at Safeco Field in Seattle, Washington on Saturday, September 22 in second game of their three match series.
Starting pitcher Matt Harrison had a great time on the mound as he gave up just seven hits and one run in eight effective innings. Striking-out six batters, he used his fastballs and sliders very effectively. However, Harrison was unfortunate to end up on
the losing side despite putting a masterful pitching performance.
"I got better as the game went on. My command got better," Harrison said. "Saunders' pitch, I didn't make a mistake. It's where I wanted it to be but he got extension on it and got it. That wasn't the only mistake I made but the only one that got me."
His counterpart from Seattle, Blake Beavan also had a big impact on the game as he tossed up seven scoreless innings for his tenth win of the season.
Relief pitchers Josh Kinney and Tom Wilhelmsen combined to throw two perfect innings to help Mariners secure a narrow win. Mariners’ left fielder Michael Saunders also played a key role in deciding the outcome of the clash as he scored the only run of the
game with a home-run to right in the second inning.
"It means a lot. I'm from there. I got traded by them so it means a lot to beat those guys," Beavan said. "They are the best hitting team in baseball right there."
"Everything happened how we wanted it to, from the first guy to the last guy that inning," Kinney said.
Rangers will be very disappointed with their batting performance in a game that they could have won easily. Offensively, the Rangers have been the most successful team in the American League this season. Rangers’ ability to score runs against some of the
most prolific pitching attacks is what makes them a dangerous side.
Right now, Rangers are placed first on the American League West Division standings table, four games ahead of the second placed Oakland Athletics. Manager Ron Washington will be expecting his men to continue their good work in this last week of the season
to make it to the playoffs.
