Texas Rangers starter Colby Lewis blanks Chicago White Sox in 4-0 triumph: MLB Update
Texas Rangers starter, Colby Lewis threw his first career shutout game, leading the Club to a 4-0 striking triumph over League rivals Chicago White Sox at the U.S. Cellular Field, on Monday, May 16 to take a 1-0 lead in the two-game series.
Texas manager, Ron Washington considered Colby's fastballs as unplayable pitches. Washington said, "When he's got that type of slider and he can spot his fastball the way he did tonight, he's tough."
The 31-year-old ball-thrower tossed nine striking innings, allowing just five no-score hits, one walk and managed seven strikeouts to earn his fourth win of the season. Lewis, who was pitching for his 74th start of the career, finally managed to achieve
the most desired title by any pitcher.
A jubilant Lewis spoke to the reporters after the match and said, "That's what you have to do as a starter, I think, just going out there and helping your teammates out as much as you can."
Michael Young, on the other hand, hit a RBI single to the centre of the field to score the first run of the game in the third inning. Adrian Beltre followed Young and scored the second run off Edwin Jackson in the same inning to take a 2-0 lead.
"You know when you're facing Jackson it's going to be a grind," Young said. "To get Colby a couple runs, let him do the rest, was the story of the game."
Jackson, after allowing these runs, struck back and held the Rangers scoreless in his later three innings. In the sixth innings though, he gave away another RBI double to Ian Kinsler, with the deficit now reaching 4-0.
As Jackson had given away eleven hits and three walks, the White Sox manager, Ozzie Guillen, replaced him with Tony Pena to prevent the situation from getting more aggravated.
Sox’ bat was swinging with full strength in the last two games, but they failed to generate a special performance here in the first game of the series.
Pena tossed a strong one and 2/3 innings to restrict the Rangers scoreless in seventh inning, however, the batters failed to provide any support with the bat. White Sox sluggers entered the plate for thirty-one combined at-bats, but could manage just five
hits, one each by Juan Pierre, Alexei Ramirez and Omar Vizquel. Only Anthony John Pierzynski managed to hit two hits in three at-bats.
