Texas Rangers targeting Cliff Lee and Zack Greinke
Major League Baseball is entering the better half of the off season period. Many players are looking to move to better clubs from the free agency and the winter meetings are designed to provide these ball stars a forum for them to interact with the upper
tier management in every team. 30 teams from the National League and the American League have expressed their desire to lock in good players in order to make up for lost players or weak positions in the formation.
The Washington Nationals have been the team to make the big cut in the league thus far. Their acquisition of Jayson Werth on a 7-year contract amounting to $126 million has made them the surprise package of the year. With Carl Crawford and Cliff Lee still
up for grabs, the chase is on to tie them to the roster. The Texas Rangers are striving hard for the right replacement for Lee, if he decides to move to the New York Yankees.
Zack Greinke is one other pitcher on the mind of the Texans and even though their pursuit of Lee hasn’t run cold, there are rumours that the ace star will sign on with the Yanks in the coming days.
Zack is currently part of the Kansas City Royals roster and he’s something the team isn’t going to let go without a useful trade swap agreement. The club’s General Manager, Dayton Moore is expected to raise the demand for his player in the coming days and
his preference will be to see the Lee move to another club before he allows Greinke to move away from the Royals.
The Rangers’ General Manager Jon Daniels made an assessment on Lee’s pursuit. He said, "There's nothing new. We've been pretty open that we've got interest in bringing him back. Beyond that, we'll let it play out. We're working through our options. There's
no real timetable. On any one thing, we're always one phone call or one meeting away from doing something."
The Rangers are strapped between making choices for pitchers. The options available spread from the minor league and the high wage demand agents.
Daniels explained with, "Our challenge is how we go about doing it when you're both considering high dollar players as well as a package of young players. That's the nature of our job, balancing the short-term and the long-term. What gives us the best chance
to win this year while building around a core team that's maturing, but also considering our goal of being competitive year in and year out."
