Texas Rangers third baseman Adrian Beltre reflects on stunning knock in Game 4 – MLB Playoffs
If the Texas Rangers wanted a strong hitting display from one of their players, they got it from Adrian Beltre on Tuesday, October 4 at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg against the Tampa Bay Rays. The third baseman turned the tide for his club as he knocked
three homers in Game 4 of the American League Division Series against a resilient club.
The former Boston Red Sox player was quiet with the bat in his first two outings in the post-season campaign. He managed to lead an RBI walk in the second game when Rays’ pitcher, James Shields, threw a hit pitch in the fourth inning. He eventually scored
in the same inning but had no bat on the ball.
The player picked up a single in the third game and eventually scored later on. With an average of just .091 in the first three matches, Beltre moved to .267 in the last bout. He went 3-for-4, hitting three homers to upgrade his average. He managed to hit
one against first game starter, Matt Moore.
Rays’ rookie pitcher had retired Beltre on all four at-bats. On Tuesday however, the story was different.
"You know, it is just one of those days," Beltre said. "The first two games, they were tough on me. Moore pitched really good, really well. [James] Shields has always been tough on me. And I was talking to my hitting coach, trying to find a little point
where I was kind of not feeling right at home plate. I wasn't feeling comfortable, and yesterday I felt better."
Beltre now joins Mike Napoli as the top hitters for the club, at the moment. The two players have a great reputation in the field and with Ian Kinsler the two get the necessary nudge to put the club in front. Adrian had a brilliant game right at the time
when the Rangers needed it the most. The Rangers will be looking to Beltre to carry his winning momentum into the Championship Series to face either the New York Yankees or the surging Detroit Tigers.
