Texas Rangers thrash Baltimore Orioles 7-3 to win series – MLB Update
Texas Rangers thrashed Baltimore Orioles 7-3 at Oriole Park at Camden Yards in Baltimore, Maryland on Thursday, May 10 in the decisive finale of their four match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Josh Hamilton, once again, was the star of the show for the Rangers as he hit a towering home run in the first to give them 2-0 lead. Batters put up a great show in the second inning to put Baltimore 3-2 ahead in the second. However, Texas continued to attack and Mike Napoli, Nelson Cruz, Adrian Beltre, Ian Kinsler and Michael Young helped them take a handsome 7-3 lead in the seventh, which lasted till the end of the game.
"I was pretty happy I had a good series," Hamilton said in a post game interview. "But the series is over with now and we have to go home and think about (facing Los Angeles). It feels like we've only been home 12 or 14 days since we started spring training."
"There's good players coming in behind him," Orioles manager Buck Showalter said. "Tampa's a perennial playoff team. It's playing at this level. There's another challenge right behind it."
Both teams displayed some high quality baseball skills in a game that was played on an extremely competitive note. The Rangers made the most of available opportunities to put their opponents under immense pressure. Texas had won comprehensively in the opening two games of the series but the Orioles fought back brilliantly in the third game to keep the series alive.
With momentum on their side, the Orioles were the favourites to win the finale game to level the series. They also had the home advantage working in their favour but the Rangers made them pay the ultimate price by devastating them in almost all aspects of the game.
With their win, the Rangers also improved their record to 21-11, which makes them one of the most successful teams in American League. Baltimore, on the other hand, are now 20-12 and they will be looking to put things back on the right track as early as possible.
