Texas Rangers to decide between Yu Darvish and Prince Fielder – MLB News
The air of uncertainty continues to surround Yu Darvish and the Texas Rangers’ deal. While there is a predominant likelihood of this deal getting finalised by Wednesday, which happens to be the deadline, there will be lingering questions on the fate of Prince
Fielder.
News reports trickling in had indicated earlier last week that the meeting between Prince Fielder, the free-agent slugger from the Milwaukee Brewers and the Texas Rangers was ‘preliminary’ in nature.
All that must be seen in the light of “fair and reasonable” deal the Texas Rangers are pursuing with the Japanese talent, Yu Darvish. While the deal appears to be likely, the Rangers have their backup plan all set.
Roy Oswalt is a name being seriously considered for the rotation in the event of failure to sign Yu Darvish. The fact that Prince Fielder’s name has come in the equation is in itself very interesting given the Rangers’ intention to sign a pitcher.
From Ian Kinsler to Derek Holland and from Mike Napoli to Colby Lewis, the Rangers intend to pursue them once the deal with Yu Darvish reaches a logical conclusion. All that can be done is to wait for all of this to work itself out.
From Mark Lowe, Mike Adams, Matt Harrison, David Murphy, Nelson Cruz, Elvis Andrus and Napoli, it is all about arbitration-eligible players that the Texas Rangers need to speak to in the days to come.
The lingering unemployment of free-agent Prince Fielder may well be a growing concern for him and his agent Scott Boras. It may continue to go on for a while until and unless the Rangers make a final decision on Yu Darvish.
The deal is said to be worth $51.7 million if Darvish is acquired. If that money is given out to the deal with the Japanese right-hander, Prince Fielder will no longer remain a prospect for the Rangers. It is in this light that the whole event, as it unfolds,
will be of huge interest for the fans and observers alike in the days to come.
