Texas Rangers to move ahead as C. J. Wilson wooed by other teams – MLB News
The Texas Rangers on Wednesday, December 7, said they were now prepared to move ahead with or without C. J. Wilson. Having remained the Pitcher of the Year for two consecutive years for the Texas Rangers, Wilson seems to have decided to make his mind for
joining the team that bids the highest offer to the ace pitcher.
The meeting with C. J. Wilson’s agent Bob Garber did not seem to have produced the kind of result the Texas Rangers might have been looking for. The departure, so it appears, is all set now.
This comes amid the report that C. J. Wilson had got big offers from the Miami Marlins along with the Los Angeles Angels. In the face of such contract offers, the Rangers will find it increasingly difficult to make bigger proposal for a contract than what
the two teams have offered.
Speaking to the media on Wednesday, the Texas Rangers’ general manager Jon Daniels, stated it was now on Wilson to decide what he deems right. The market value for the pitcher, Daniels said, was an important part of the whole discussion he and Wilson agent
Bob Garber has had.
"Until C.J. makes a decision, you can't rule anything out, but we understand that's a real possibility," Daniels said. "We appreciate how Bob has handled it and how C.J. has handled it. The big part of the process was C.J. going out and seeing his market
value.”. That was a good portion of our conversation.” That, said Daniels, will determine where it was headed.
That the Angels and Marlins are putting all their efforts to secure the deal corroborates the fact that Rangers might well be out of the whole race involving C. J. Wilson.
"We still don't know how it is going to end, but I'm prepared. We have a received a phone call, but I'm prepared for that."
Wilson was to be re-signed by the Texas Rangers to allow Neftali Feliz to move upward in the roster. That will permit the Rangers to pitch with more confidence and keep a stronger defence, just like their emboldened offence.
