Texas Rangers to sort out future contracts with the players
As the Texas Rangers signed Derek Holland for five years deal on Tuesday, March 20, there are other pending contracts that need to be sorted out. Second baseman Ian Kinsler, among others, is one of the Rangers players whose contract is yet to be finalized.
Josh Hamilton, Nelson Cruz and the catcher Mike Napoli are other players in the list that the Rangers have to make a decision about. The team’s general manager Jon Daniels said on Tuesday that the team has had discussions with different players.
"We've had discussions with different guys, but I couldn't predict if we'll reach an agreement with anybody else," Rangers general manager Jon Daniels said.
On the other hand, when it comes to Kinsler, he is very clear about the future course of action. He wants to stay with the team as he sees the entire career in the same club.
"There have been some talks lately, but not much else," Kinsler said. "I have made my feelings clear on the subject. I want to stay here. This is where I have been my whole career. This is where I've grown up. I want to see it through and be a part of it."
As to what the Texas Rangers do eventually is unknown. But Kinsler has remained an important part of the offence for years. But how is this process started or to be expedited does not seem to be certain.
For example, the Rangers mostly avoid going for extension talks during the season as they prefer carrying it out in spring or at the end of the season. Taking things in this light, Holland’s contract extension makes complete sense.
For now none of the players contract is near expiry at least by the end of the season. However, the Rangers have a lot to deal with before the next year as the aforementioned players will have seen their contract time run out.
As it seems for now, the club will prefer going for negotiations once the season concludes, allowing it space and time to ably handle the issues and complexities attached to the deals.
