Texas Rangers trade Frank Francisco to Toronto Blue Jays for Mike Napoli – MLB News
It looks like the Texas Rangers are trying to add to their fielding depth as they recently traded pitcher Frank Francisco to the Toronto Blue Jays for Mike Napoli.
Both teams seem satisfied as the Blue Jays acquire a decent pitcher and the Rangers get Napoli.
“Napoli has added an extra ability in our catching positions,” said Rangers’ general manager Jon Daniels. “He holds the good rank to play all-around whether at first base or as hitter.”
Napoli has been moving around quite frequently as he was brought into the Blue Jays a few days back from the Los Angeles Angels for outfielder Vernon Wells. However, it now seems that he is again been moved and this time to the Rangers.
Mike is happy with the change as he said, “Last two days were very rough for me, but I am glad to be a part of the Texas Rangers now.”
Napoli seems enthusiastic to be a part of the team as he knows the tremendous winning potential of the Rangers. He was a little disoriented by the quick moves between three different teams in just a matter of days.
Mike had a decent 2010 season with the Angels where batted .238 with 26 homes-runs and 68 RBIs, in 140 games. Napoli’s abilities led him to .305 hitting against left-handed pitchers. The Los Angeles Angles used Napoli as their catcher in four seasons.
It has been reported that the Rangers have offered Napoli $5.3 million to his demand of $6.1 million.
Francisco was still un-signed with Texas due to salary arbitration. He appeared in 56 games for the Rangers in 2010 and was 6-4 with an ERA of 3.76. He missed his last five months of the season for Rangers due to muscle strain. His overall career with Texas
since 2004 is 17-15 with 32 saves and a 3.75 ERA in 277 games. The Blue Jays will be happy to get such a talented pitcher to help increase their throwing depth in the rotation.
It will be exciting to see the impact Napoli will have in the Rangers camp as the team are hoping or great things from this brilliant player.
