Texas Rangers undeterred by Game 5 loss as club holds optional training at Rangers Ballpark
The Texas Rangers held an optional workout session at the Rangers Ballpark in Arlington on Friday, October 14. The club is preparing for Game 6 in the American League championship Series against the Detroit Tigers. Some of the players took the chance to
answer a few questions and they made it very clear that they were not feeling any pressure, going in to Saturday’s game.
The club is 3 – 2 in the competition and there is reason to believe the side is feeling tense as they need just one more win to go into the World Series. The Tigers however need two straight wins. Odds favour the Rangers and there is optimism in the club
house.
Josh Hamilton, who is .318 in the series, was not present at the workout session. However another outfielder was available for comments over the proceedings of Game 5.
"Pressure is what you make of it," outfielder David Murphy said. "The only pressure is what you put on yourselves. I don't see where there is pressure on us. We're not one loss away from elimination. It's a great series, two teams grinding it out and playing
hard every day. I don't see why there would be any pressure on either team."
Murphy is currently .333 in the Championship Series and there is reason to believe the right fielder will play a massive role in the hitting department. One other man was willing to talk about the pressure factor and it happened to be Michael Young. The
unofficial captain is currently on a .182 batting average and his role as a cleanup fielder has taken its time adapt to his style.
"We don't think about pressure," Young said. "We think about having fun and playing baseball the way we're capable. We expect to play well and give ourselves a chance to win and that's what we expect tomorrow night."
If the Rangers play with this kind of mentality, the World Series may as well be within their reach. It remains to be seen whether they move to the final stage after Game 6 or not.
