Texas Rangers vowed not to hold back, Holland pitched from Bullpen
If the Texas Rangers had the best game in their 2011 season, it surely had to be Game 6 of the World Series. The club put up a big fight but they were unable to pull off a tournament ending victory as their opponents, the St. Louis Cardinals, managed a walk
off homer in the tenth inning, ending the night’s encounter with a 10 – 9 score line at the Busch Stadium in St. Louis. The Rangers vowed to go all out on Thursday, October 27, and they did.
Derek Holland pitched in the game after three days of rest from his Game 4 starting role. The player came at a critical time when the Texans were even with the Cards on a 4 – 4 score line. He pitched two innings to concede a run off two hits. Nevertheless,
the heat was on the bullpen reliever as the Rangers were 7 – 5 ahead, at the time.
Ron Washington had earlier indicated that he would use the hurler conservatively and it may have been an unfortunate scene to see the hurler pitch in one game as a reliever and give up a run.
"We'll use him in whatever way we have to use him," Washington said.
Colby Lewis lasted just 5.1 innings as he gave up four runs in three hits. While his contribution earlier made the right impact on the game, his sixth inning rout did not go well as he left the game with bases loaded. Mike Adams had earlier told the reporters
that there was probably no need for Holland.
"We're expecting Colby to go out there and give us a solid outing, so hopefully we don't need everybody," reliever Mike Adams said. "But just in case, we're going to have everybody back to full strength, and we'll be ready to go."
C. J. Wilson will pitch as a reliever in Game 7 and that is one of the heated topics at the moment. He will have three days of rest and there will be a need for him, then.
"I'm not worried about tomorrow," Washington said. "If we get a chance to put this away tonight, nobody is going to be sitting around and watching."
Matt Harrison will pitch in Game 7 as a starter, though.
