Texas Tech announces upcoming season schedule – Volleyball update
The Texas Tech boys volleyball team recently announced its schedule for the 2011 season. According to the provided details of the schedule designed by head coach Don Flora, Texas Tech will find themselves in an interesting mix of conference and non-conference
matches.
Based on the schedule for the program, Texas Tech will be taking part in 16 non-conference matches. Out of these, 13 will be held at neutral venues or on the road. Other than that, the Texas Tech boys are going to be seen in 11 matches played at the United
Spirit Arena.
Flora is satisfied with the matches that are in line for his team and thinks that the schedule will help them prepare for the higher level conference matches. "The team is really looking forward to the upcoming season. This schedule gives us a mixture of
quality volleyball styles that will prepare us for the Big 12," he said.
The first match of the season for the squad will take place on the 26 of August. The opening match will be a part of the TCU Tournament. After the Red Raiders are done with that, they will play host to the Texas Tech Invitational Championship that will span
over a period of two days and will start on September 2. The teams that will be participating in this tournament are Central Arkansas, Northwestern State, Morehead State and UNLV. It will be the first time since the year 2008 that Texas Tech is hosting a non-conference
tournament.
All of September will include non-conference matches played against various teams. However, 24th September will mark the beginning of league matches in which Texas Tech will compete against the Big 12 teams. The first team that the Red Raiders
will encounter will be Iowa State, who has secured itself a position in the national rankings. The Red Raiders will have a home ground advantage in the first four of its conference matches.
The regular season of the Red Raiders will come to its close on the 26th November with a match against Missouri.
