Texas fielders Adrian Beltre and Josh Hamilton opt out of optional work out in Arlington
The Texas Rangers held an optional workout session on Friday, October 14, at the Rangers Ballpark in Arlington. The club wanted to prepare for the upcoming Game 6 of the American League Championship Series against the Detroit Tigers. Two premier stars were
absent from the practice session. Adrian Beltre and Josh Hamilton were no-shows. Apparently, they had their approval from manager Ron Washington.
"It was optional and they chose not to come," Washington said.
Beltre has a sore knee and his injury came in Game 3 of the tournament against Detroit Pitcher Doug Fister. The third baseman was .267 in the Division Series against the Tampa Bay Rays but he is .190 in this series, so far. With just two runs and one RBI,
it is understandable to see him taking a day’s rest for the upcoming encounter.
At the same time, Hamilton has been nesting a left groin strain for almost a month now. His power leg, or back leg, had been affected greatly and that explains why he has not been able to hit a homer, so far in the competition. He will be in Game 6 however.
Both players are scheduled to feature as the club will look to qualify for the World Series at the Rangers Ballpark, early.
"I think we all are banged up at this point of the year," Washington said. "Yes, Hamilton had some discomfort. But the discomfort is not going to keep him from being a player tomorrow as far as we go.
"It's an issue that we have to deal with. But he will show up and he will be in the lineup and he will play. And as I said earlier, we are all dealing with some nagging injuries. But we can play through it."
Hamilton has surprisingly been the most noticeable figure on the scoreboard in the series. He is .318 and he has four RBIs and three runs to his name, so far. The rest would enable both players to recuperate for a day before they prepare for Game 6 on Saturday.
