I'm originally from Texas & I was just thinking that over here, especially in south Texas where I'm originally from, Tejano music & Tex-Mex food is very popular. What does California have in terms of Mexican culture? My friend from Cali said that instead of Tex-Mex, they have another type of Mexican food? If that makes any sense, sorry if I'm confusing anyone.

  1. Mexi-Cali

  2. California Fusion inspired by the fresh flavors of Mexico. lol

  3. Tex-mex isn't really Mexican food. lol It's like...the word they use to describe American food that's been influenced by Mexican cuisine.

I honestly think California's Mexican food is called Calmex but I could be wrong. lol It's generally healthier than Tex-mex because they use more fresh items, fish, less cheese and beef, avocados, etc.

  4. They have baja style (baja, mexico).  Much fresher.

What part of texas? I went to A&M!

  5. I think Tex-Mex is a bit spicier than the Mexican-influenced cuisine we have in California. I think some would call it "Southwestern" cuisine - maybe closer to the Mexican cuisine in New Mexico, rather than in Texas. Call it what you will - it's all good.

  6. California has actual mexican food. I just moved back from the Austin area after 6 months and the Tex-mex ain't got nothin' on the real thing!!!!

  7. California Tortilla!

  8. It makes perfect sense, and I say that Tex-Mex also has different flavors depending on what part of the state your in!  I grew up in Houston, and that Tex-Mex is TOTALLY different than that in Austin (where I currently live).  Not better, just different.  And California-Mex is MUCH different than Tex-Mex.

But anywhere you have it, you just can't go wrong with tortillas, avocados and margaritas!  I love it all!

    happy eating.
