Texas hurler Colby Lewis explains how he pitches in the Major Leagues, prepares for Game 6
Texas Rangers are enjoying a good 3 – 2 lead in the World Series and as they prepare to head out to Game 6 to force a win, they have Colby Lewis preparing for his duty on the mound. The hurler will be up against the St. Louis Cardinals at the Busch Stadium
in St. Louis and he will be doing the same thing he always does. He will not alter his approach and he will not pitch differently to any player in the game.
Lewis has a tendency to surprise many baseball experts. With a regular season career tally of 38 wins and 38 losses, many would write off the hurler as an ordinary starter. Adding to the tally, he possesses an earning runs average of a whopping 4.99. Being
expensive in the regular season campaign would mean being further costly in the postseason.
That however is not the case. Lewis is 4 – 1 from the last seven post season encounters. His earning runs average is 2.95 this year and he is currently the best pitcher on the mound for the Rangers. Facing off with Cards pitcher Jaime Garcia would not concern
the pitcher. He is rather interested by his time on the mound.
"I think the biggest thing is ... enjoying every moment of it, enjoying still having the opportunity to get the ball every five days, to go out and pitch, to perform, to make your family proud," Lewis said. "I think a big key for me is just knowing that
my family is happy for me, but I'm doing something that my kids are going to appreciate."
What gets Lewis ticking is a mystery but the player gave his opinion to the press.
"I think [you try] to harness those emotions, the adrenaline, the extra noise, the crowd and everything, and just kind of stick to what you've been doing all year long and stay with the same approach," Lewis said.
The player clarified that one cannot be concerned about the possibilities or circumstances of one action and the other. The focus has to be on the pitch that needs to be delivered. The next step for the hurler is to execute that pitch.
