Texas infielder Adrian Beltre picks up Gold Glove award on third base
Adrian Beltre has given the Texas Rangers a lot of reasons to be proud of him and apart from his batting prowess, the superstar has availed the 2011 Gold Glove award with a leading runs saves of 17 in the American League. He becomes the first third baseman
with the Rangers to lift the award after Buddy Bell picked did the same in 1984. The star was ecstatic and he enjoyed his new trophy as he conversed with the press on Tuesday, November 1.
"It means a lot," Beltre said. "Obviously I'm proud of my defence. It's part of my game that I take pride in. To be chosen as one of the best in the league is quite an accomplishment. Defence is not easy and there is a lot of competition out there."
Beltre was a Boston Red Sox player last year but he made a move to Texas on a five year contract worth $80 million. Judging from his salary expenses, he made the Rangers proud as he became the second best fielder in the American League. He was also ranked
third in total chances per inning.
"I love playing defence, and it means a lot that Wash is a defensive guy," Beltre said. "Wash is one of those guys who make it easy and fun to play defence."
Ian Kinsler was a nominee for the award on second base but he failed to win the tough contest as Beltre’s former team mate, Dustin Pedroia took the glove.
Beltre was extremely impressive with the bat in the season. He had a batting average of .296 and he smashed 32 home runs in the season. Prior to the award, the star explained his indifference to the nomination for the award.
"To be honest with you, I didn't give a thought about the Gold Glove or not," he said. "I don't play for the awards."
With that kind of mentality, Adrian Beltre fits in perfectly with the Rangers. His team work stance sits well with the club’s philosophy and if this keeps up, there will be more achievements like these in the next season.
