Texas manager Ron Washington vowed to give Neftali Feliz a chance; player no show in Game 7
The Texas Rangers wanted a win to lift their first World Series title in history. Unfortunately that win was never realized as the club lost Game 7 of the World Series at the Busch Stadium in St. Louis. The Rangers were tied at 3 – 3 in the tournament after
Game 6 and there was a need to see the club go up against the St. Louis Cardinals for the final victory. Texas manager Ron Washington made it clear that he would throw in Neftali Feliz to close for the club. He told the press before Game 7 on Friday, October
28.
Feliz had a chance to win the game for the Rangers in Game 6 as the Rangers were leading the ninth inning with a 7 – 5 score line. Feliz was brought in to shutdown the opposition but he failed to do the right thing as he lost the club its lead and gave up
two runs to prolong the game. At the end, the Cards won the game and Feliz was severely devastated.
"Mentally, he walked in and was fine today," Washington said. "We've seen him do that before, and we got out of it. Last night, it didn't work out. Sometimes he gets erratic with his command. If we have a chance today, he is going to be my guy.
"He's very stable. We certainly didn't have to put a respirator on him. We didn't have to shock his heart back. In this game, there will be days when you don't have good days, and I think if you talked to Neftali last night, he didn't feel like it was a
good day."
The manager kept his hopes up on Feliz’s role as he made it very clear that he would pass the ball on to the closer to shut the game down in Game 7.
Feliz however was a no show at Game 7 though, as the Rangers lost 6 – 2 to the Cards. He could not come into pitch as the Rangers were shutdown in the top ninth inning of the game. It was nevertheless, a very disappointing situation that came to the frontline.
Feliz now heads to the offseason with a disappointing show in his last outing.
