Texas outfielder David Murphy admires manager Ron Washington
Texas outfielder David Murphy got the chance to bat against a left hand pitcher in Game 5 of the World Series and he owed the opportunity to manager Ron Washington. The skipper knew how weak Murphy was against the left hand ball throwers but he opted anyways,
to send in the player against the St. Louis Cardinals’ reliever Marc Rzepczynski. The outfielder loaded the bases up with a single to put the game in favour of the Texans. Now, the player is out of Game 6, but he took all the time in the world to praise his
manager on Tuesday, October 25.
Washington has been a source of inspiration for the club and his hard stance on instincts and strategy has gotten the club to the World Series for the second time in two years. The one thing that has worked well for the club is the concept of togetherness.
The manager brings to the fold, a strong relationship between the coaches and the players.
With him included in the mix, a trinity is formed. The Rangers lead the Cards 3 – 2 in the Series and they need just one more win to lift the ultimate trophy. Murphy believes the manager has been an integral part of the club’s success. He believes he shares
the joy and despair of the players.
"We like to have fun on the field, and I think he's a perfect example of the personality of our team," says outfielder David Murphy. "He's smiling, he's joking around, he's running in place while we're running around the bases. He's emotional. He has fun
out there, and we have fun out on the field. It's easy to play for a guy like that."
One of the notable things Murphy talked about was the manager’s capacity to maintain composure and look for the opportunities.
"He's not afraid to fail at all," Murphy said after Game 5. "He knows that you're going to have to go out on a limb sometimes and take some risks to win some games and to make the right call in big situations."
Murphy will sit out of the next encounter as Washington brings in Craig Gentry for the game. The outfielder might come in as a pinch hitter and that is a possibility Washington is comfortable with.
