Texas skipper Ron Washington puts faith in starter Colby Lewis
Texas Rangers are on the verge of winning the World Series. They need a win from potentially two games but they are hoping to avail the victory in Game 6, under the lead of starting pitcher, Colby Lewis. The Texas hurler provides the club a unique approach
to pitching and one can attribute that style to his two-year experience from Japan. The player will face the St. Louis Cardinals at Busch Stadium in St. Louis and he will bring in a lot of variety in pitching.
Manager Ron Washington spoke to the press on Tuesday, October 25, about Lewis’ confidence level and approach. He clearly described the hurler’s mindset, going in to the game.
"You know, this game sometimes can bring out the worst in you, and this game can definitely get you to the point where you begin to doubt what you're capable of doing. Well, Colby never doubts what he's capable of doing, and I think that's what sets him
apart from some guys at this stage. It doesn't bother him one bit."
Lewis has a habit of tormenting the opposition with various pitches. He is 4 – 1 from his last seven postseason games. With an earning runs average of just 2.95 in this year’s playoffs, he is the club’s best starter. He will be facing off against Jaime Garcia
and that has happened before in Game 2 of the competition. The club won that outing 2 – 1 but none of the pitchers picked up a win. Currently on 1 – 1, the hurler would fancy a win.
"He totally believes in what he's trying to do out there. He never gets away from what he does best. That's mainly the key right there. ... Colby never doubts what he's capable of doing, and I think that's what [sets] him apart from some guys at this stage."
In the regular season career, Lewis is 38 – 38 with an earning runs average of 4.99. That figure may seem weak but his appearance in the playoffs casts a deceiving look at the opposing hitters. If there is anyone the Rangers can depend on in Game 6, it would
have to be Lewis.
