Text message charges from a carnival cruise?

I know that if I make calls from my cell phone on board a carnival cruise that I will get charged something like $2.80 per minute by the ship, but what if I send or receive text messages? Is there an additional charge? I have verizon. With them, when you are roaming you get charged extra to make calls but not to send text messages, so I don't know if it's the same kind of deal with the cruise line.

  1. this is a great question to ask the cruise lines. I would phone them and ask them specifics. Yes they probably would charge for the texting/phone use. because of the signal. I would also, however call your cell phone company and ask them. they could have some more information.  Good luck. I think i would 1.Buy a phone card(international if i needed one) and 2. use it on land, from what ever port i was in. Have a good cruise.

  2. i never had a signal, even when i was at port

  3. In order to avoid fees, you should wait until you are in port.  Cell, Internet and other fees can be outrageously expensive while you are on board any cruise ship.

  4. well calling is the same thing as texting...in order to do both things, you need a signal, and that it what the cruise is charging you for

  5. I agree with the first person.  There is no reason to text on a boat.  Take them with you.  It is not that expensive.  Do not take a phone, a computer (unless you are a very successful business person), or a atitude on a cruise ship.  You are there to have fun!!!

  6. your are on a cruise, relax there's no need to send text messages

  7. you get charges texting...my friend text me thinking she wouldn't and her bill was over $200!
