Texting While Out Of The Country?

I am visiting the dominican republic for a few weeks, and I want to be able to text my freinds back in the US while I am there, I have unlimited. but will i have to pay a lot anyway since i am out of the country? I heard I could just get a prepaid sim card down there and use that while i am there, would that work? I have at&t

  1. You will probably find that your "unlimited texts" aren't available when you're roaming. I know that when I was overseas recently (from Australia) the text messages I sent cost 3 times what they normally cost (75c as opposed to the normal 25c).

    Check your provider's website to see what their charges are (also check that they allow you to roam!)

    You may be able to buy a prepaid sim card when you get there - however you would need to make sure your cell phone has been "unlocked" as sometimes a phone will be locked to a particular network (so if you try to put another company's SIM in, it won't work).


  2. Call your operator/carrier's customer service and ask if you have international roaming enabled and if so what tariffs apply.
