I have a Sprint phone with unlimited texting that I pay for.

Would it cost extra to send a text message to someone in California when I am living in Connecticut?

And while, I'm here would it cost extra to call someone on my cellphone who lives in California when I am living in Connecticut?

  1. not texting but calling depends on your plan

  2. No, If you have unlimited then it'll be free to send them a text.

But to call them, yes it'll cost because it's roaming.

  3. nah it costs the same calling some1 in cali as calling some1 in the same house as u.

  4. Cell phones don't have a "local" and "long-distance" charge. Calls and texts cost the same no matter where you're calling.

  5. No, and no.

    i have sprint too

  6. it doesn't matter where u are, u can still text everyone anywhere for the same amount of money. but to call them, that might cost extra b/c of roaming.

  7. im pretty sure that long distance texting doesn't cost extra.and i think long distance like is built in with cells

  8. as for CALLING someone in california when you live in Connecticut, OF course it will cost more!! LOng distance charges will apply....Some carriers have a plan where you can call like your "favorite 5" no matter where they live, but without that plan, you will pay HUGE long distance charges. The people who ar telling you that long distance doesn't apply to cell phones have NO idea what they are talking about. Note this is NOT "roaming", because you are using the phone in your area.

As for sending Long distance Text messages, call your provider...they may be included in your plan and probably are, but call just to make sure.

You might want to call your customer service department anyway, and tell them what you need/want to do, and they can give you some suggestions.....

Do NOT just start making long distance called without calling your phone company...I'm sure you don't need a $500 phone bill, right??

Note, sometimes, its MUCH better/cheaper to get a calling card from 7-11 !!!!!!!!

  9. You need to know what your plan includes.  Some plans include unlimited long distance as well as local calling; others include free calling between certain hours and/or on weekends.  Most cell phone providers do NOT charge for long distance, but if you are traveling and calling from outside your home area, you can have roaming charges.  Call your carrier and ask what your plan provides.  They can look it up just by having your phone number.

    Better safe than sorry.

Regardless of your plan, it usually costs more to call internationally.

  10. Well, it depends what plan you have. If you have the plan that's got service throughout the whole country, then yes you can text and call and it would cost the same. However, if you don't, it will charge extra for what they call "long-distance texts". The same goes for calls.

I know this because I went to another country and my phone company (Cingular) charged me $00.25 for each text.

  11. Im not sure how Sprint works...but texting would cost you nothing, you could be in Canada and text someone in the US for free...however calling someone out of state is long distance, and that might be expensive, depending on your plan with Sprint.  I would call them just to be 100% sure :)
