Tey Seu Bock says Lee Chong Wei will challenge Chinese players at the 2012 London Olympics
Malaysia’s national coach for Singles, Tey Seu Bock is confident that Lee Chong Wei will put up a good show against Chinese players at the 2012 London Olympics, despite losing to Chen Long in last week’s Japan Open Super Series.
The coach also expressed that the World Number One, Chong Wei will not let Chinese shuttlers dominate anymore. In the Japan Open, Lin Dan gave a walkover to his team-mate, Chen Long, who was fresh against Chong Wei and managed to win the battle.
Seu Bock said that his defeat against Long will help him in becoming more aggressive in the court. Seu Bock said, “Chong Wei is well aware of what China are doing and he is strong enough to disrupt their plan. They will be on a three-pronged attack all the
way to the Olympics but Chong Wei is not going to allow Chen Long or Chen Jin to gain a psychological edge.”
The coach added that in the upcoming events, Chong Wei will make it tough for Long to win any event he participates in. Only one victory is not enough to shake the confidence of the World Number One.
While talking about upcoming events of Denmark Open Premier Super Series and French Open Super Series, Seu Bock said that they will accept all results whether Chong Wei wins or not, as their main target is to win the Men’s Singles medal at Olympic Games.
Seu Bock said, “We will not be alarmed if he doesn't win the Denmark Open or the French Open next month. Chong Wei has made the final of all the tournaments he has competed in so far and he could do it again in Europe. There is no pressure on him to win.”
Chong Wei has played nine events so far in the current year and has reached in the finals of all tournaments. He has won six titles and lost three to Chinese opponents. However, he is eyeing to prove his mettle at the London Olympics.
