Tey Seu Bock says Lin Dan lucky to find an easy Men’s Singles draw at the 2011 World Championships
Malaysia’s Singles coach, Tey Seu Bock, said that China’s Lin Dan is lucky among the top seeds, as he found an easy Men’s Singles draw in the 2011 World Championships, which are scheduled to start from August 8, at Wembley Indoor Arena at London.
World Number Two in the international rankings, Lin Dan, who is also a three-time world champion and ruling Olympic gold medallist, is in the bottom half of the Men’s Singles draw. Among the top six shuttlers, Lin will face no Chinese player in the earlier
rounds and is predicted to have a smooth ride until the quarter-final of the event.
While talking about the favourable draw, Seu Bock said, “Lin Dan is probably the luckiest one. He does not have to play either Chen Jin or Chen Long because these two players are going to work doubly hard to derail some of the good ones in the top half of
the draw.”
On the other hand, World Number One, Malaysia’s Lee Chong Wei, will start his journey in the upper half of the Men’s Singles draw. In the same half of the draw will be former Olympic and World Champion, Indonesia’s Taufik Hidayat, who is currently World
Number Four.
Two other Chinese shuttlers including Chen Long and Chen Jin will also fight in the upper half of the draw and can create a problem for Chong Wei. These two shuttlers are the biggest threat for the top seed in his way towards the final of the championships.
Seu Bock also added, “Chen Long and Chen Jin will surely go the distance to try and beat Chong Wei. And if they can’t, then they will at least try to stretch him and tire him out.”
Chen Long will meet the top seed in the quarter-finals, whereas, Chen Jin, the ruling World Champion, is expected to meet Chong Wei in the semi-final, if the World Number One passes Chen Long.
Lin Dan has only one player among the top six shuttlers in his pool, who is Peter Hoeg Gade from Denmark. The Chinese is expected to reach in the final if he plays his normal game.
