Tey Seu Bock says Taufik Hidayat not in top form for the upcoming World Championships
Malaysian coach, Tey Seu Bock, says that Indonesia’s Taufik Hidayat will not go far at the World Championships 2011 this time, as he is not playing good badminton. The chances of the Indonesian shuttler to reach in the decisive stages are quite meagre, as
he is not in great form at the moment.
Taufik, who has clinched the World Championships and Olympic Games titles, currently has a world ranking of Number Four in the Men’s Singles category. He is the fourth seed at the upcoming World Championships and is placed in the top-half of the draw, the
same half in which Malaysia’s Lee Chong Wei, China’s Chen Long and Chen Jin will be fighting for glory.
The 29-year-old Hidayat is struggling hard to find his momentum as he has not been playing top-class badminton in the ongoing year. Recently, he received shocking treatment from the hands of lower ranked shuttler, Marc Zwiebler of Germany, in back-to-back
events which include the US Open Grand Prix Gold and Canada Open Grand Prix.
Seu Bock said, “Taufik has not been in good form. He has lost in two tournaments going into the world meet. I don’t think Taufik is going to go far this time.”
If Taufik plays well and everything goes according to plan, he will meet the ruling world champion, Chen Jin of China in the quarter-final of the championship. However, according to the Malaysian coach, Taufik has meagre chances to reach that far in the
event, as he is not in his usual form.
Taufik delivered a stunning performance in the last edition of the World Championships, where he secured a podium berth by reaching in the final. He defeated top seed, Chong Wei, in the Men’s Singles quarter-final of the event, however, he lost to Chen Jin
in the final.
If the fourth seed Indonesian finds his momentum in the earlier rounds of the event, then nothing will be out of his reach as he is one of the most successful shuttler in the Men’s Singles category. All if left to see whether the player is able to overcome
his poor run of form and reply to his critics.
